Workshops
In the next issue of Working Writer (www.workingwriter1.com) my article on the value of workshops will appear. WW is an on-line journal, very well executed and formatted and publishes words of wisdom from such accomplished writers as Moira Allen who used to be a columnist for The Writer. I am gratified that the editor, Maggie Frisch, has accepted this piece for the Mar/Apr issue. You can subscrbe to this 6-times-a-yea-publication by contacting Maggie at workingwriters@aol.com.
Why belong to a workshop? To summarize, in a good workshop, you will find INSPIRATION, IDEAS, & ASSISTANCE. You don't need assistance? We are NOT the best judges of our own writing!
(My work has appeared in more than 80 national and regional journals. Three adultbooks, seven children's books bear my by-line and I co-authored another dozen children's books. Through more than 60 years of writing for publication I have founded, led or belonged to more than a dozen workshops. One of the earliest that I drop in on when I am visiting that part of California, has been holding weekly meetings for more than 35 years.
Members in workshops can help with TITLES, FOCUS, CORRECT WORDINESS, and MAKE OTHER SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT. I now lead four workshops and though the members tell me they are grateful for my leadership, I am grateful to them as their writing triggers long-forgotten ideas for me to write about.
Several years ago I developed a pamphlet titled "WHO? YOU! How To Found and Lead A Witers' Workshop." It is available to all at $5 a copy, postage paid.
