The Value of Rejection

Hello, Web-Writers on Jan. 26.  In one of the writer groups I belonged to several years ago, the leader opened all meetings with requesting a show of hands for the number of rejections members had received since the last monthly meeting.  This was her way of reminding us that if you don't send your work out regularly, you will not  receive acceptances.  Today my mail brought three nice surprises–well, one was publication of a short piece in a monthly newsletter.  The other two were very kind words about essays I had submitted three months ago.  One was especially encouraging in that the editor said she "enjoyed" reading it and though her publication can't use it at this time, she hoped I would keep sending it out until it was accepted.  To have even a few words of praise or encouragement urges us onward and upward.  Your comments welcome, Willma Gore

What a great idea, to require people to confess rejections. In the context you described, writers would be encouraged to GET rejections in order to have something to report! Fantastic. Thanks for the tip!
