Promotional Gimics

Woops!  Missed blogging yesterday–which will be the subject of today's Blog: A visitor from Florida attended my morning workishop yesterday.  She is the founder and president of Telling Your Story, Inc. She and/or her adult son who works with her, go, on request, to the home/business location of a person who wants to develop a memoir about his life but has neihter the time nor the expertise to do so.  All conversations with would-be clients are taped and transcriped into singlespace copy.  An editor is then hired by TYS, Inc. to re-write the material to make it chronologically sound, and an entertaining and invormative read.  I worked on one volume for the company a couple of years ago, hence my acquaintance.

I gave Marjory Lyons (TYS, Inc.) time at our meeting to inform the workshop attendees  about the company and a little about the workshop (similar to ours) that she leads at her PompanoBeach, FL home.  Marjory, an excellent editor, provided  gracious and helpful comments for the readers at the workshop.  All asked for her card.

My first editing job with this company came about because  Marjory's son, Mike,  and family lived at that time in the same Condo complex  where I lived. For my writer workshops, a sign: VILLAGE WRITERS COME IN was always posted on my door on meeting days.  Mike, had seen this several times, as well as read my press releases inviting people interested to contact me.   MIke knocked on my door one day to meet me.

That promo gimic–not intended as such–resulted in my contact, friendship, and editing work for this company.  The old saw, "Don't hide your light under a bushel" applies here.  www.telling-your-story.com

Until tomorrow, Willma
