Birth of Ideas
Nothing like keeping in touch with writer friends. I've known Georgia for about five years. We first met when the Central Coast branch of California Writers Club invited me to speak to their group. Georgia and I hit it off and kept in touch even after she moved to Nevada. There, she invited me to speak at a writer's club she participated in there. At any rate, the contact has blossomed into an exchange of personal news and MARKETS.
Most recently she sent me a market that requests stories about pet dogs. I do not have any pets but passed the info along to a member of my workshop who had written about her dog and an exciting "kidnapping" in which the dog took a part. It was too long for this market but I made editing suggestions during workshop. This member has written two stories about her pet and called to ask if I will read and edit her pieces. I do not charge for workshops but if members want extra editing I do this for $15 an hour (for workshop members) $20 per hour for others.
More than this, friend Georgia has sent two other markets–one needing a humorous story by a mother about a son; another market needed is one about romance & marriage and/or how to "love and lose." I have spent the past few days working on a story for each of these markets.
Triggers for writing and marketing surround us daily. Watch for those that you can turn into cash. Be on the alert for ideas that fit into your background, experience and/or interests. Until tomorrow, Willma
