Meetings
Today I have two workshops in my home and will attend, this evening, a special program with Professional Writers of Prescott, one of three major writer clubs I belong to in Arizona. Prescott is 60 miles from my home so I do not get to the meetings often. Normally the monthly meeting is an opportunity for members and guests to hear a professional writer in some area of the writing world–novelist, nonfiction, childrens, agenting, publishing, etc..
Once a year for a change from the professional presenters, PWP invites members to sign up to read their own work. Each reader has 10 minutes at the mic.. The reader may use the entire time sharing his own work or read for five minutes and hear audience critique for five. Approximately ten readers will appear this evening. I am one of them and will read a flash fiction piece, "Poetic Justice."
I feel that this annual opportunity for members to read their own work imakes for a worthy program and encourage anybody out there in Blogland who belongs to a writer club to suggest this format to your governing board. I'll report tomorrow on tonight's meeting.–Willma
