Record Keeping Nuisances
I've recently had a "wake up" call because I'd forgotten the name of one of my "wandering children"–manuscripts –to you writers. I received a congratulations e-mail but had no idea what it was for. Tracing it back with an e-mail to the editor of Women On Writing (an e-zine) she reminded me that I had responded to their contest seeking essays on "serendipity.." How embarrassing ! She said that a prize had already been Fed-Ex'd to me. This is the first time I had been awarded a prize for what she said was an Honorable Mention. I had to e-amail her again (blush!) to learn what title I had submitted. She sent me word that the title was "Lucky Move."
I guess senility is definitely setting in. However, I went to my card file "recipe box" where I have schooled myself to record the title, date sent, and to whom, on everything I write. Sure enough under "L" I found my entry for "Lucky Move. I still had no idea what I had written under that title. But there it was , safe and sound, in my computer file under "Manuscripts.?"
The rest of you are not this "feeble minded" I'm sure, but do set up a system for knowing where those titles are and their names. I've finally, ( I believe) got it right and workable. I will relate my entire system in a later Blog.
