Encouraging (?) Words
I've mentioned earlier the nice "ride" my "Cell Mates" short story had with ithe invitation for its use by a Canadian publishing company in an anthology for teaching creative writing to college students: "publication of the book cancelled due to economic circumstances."(My story had been published in the 2007 issue of Montana State University's anthology, Writings From the River and discovered there by the Canadian editors. By the way, "Cell Mates" had received high praise form the college professor editor of the aforementioned anthology.)
"Cell Mates" has another story. I entered it in a contest put on by the Decatur Library Association in Decator, ILL. According to the rules of the contest, previously published works could be submitted. Prizes were modest, but few contests are open to already-published material. I received a report on the story from the Decatur Library Assn. The "generous" critque was a full page, typed single space, telling me everything that was wrong with the story. Improper motivation of the heroine, improbably setting, etc., etc.
Moral. Do not be discouraged. "Cell Mates" is not discouraged. It will go out again to seek its fortune.
Until Monday, Willma
