Triple A
No, I'm not headlining the Auto Assn. Arizona Authors Association met Wednesday evening at the Sedona Library and I was able to attend. I was particularly interested because the speakers' subject was "Romance Writing." I have considered my books featuring heroines in their 50s to be "Senior Romances." This genre, I learned, is passe. My stories are "Women's Fiction."
One of the speakers said that from childhood she wanted to write "hot" romances. She has been very successful. She told us she makes an excellent living writing these–so good, in fact that she had a "give away" table, explaining that she just needed to get some of her stored books "out from under the bed." I brought one home to read and learn if the "hot sex" genre is still as distasteful to me as I believe it is.
Incidentally, in line with book selling, my writer friend in Bakersfield e-mailed about this year's hugely successful used book sale at their local library. They bundle the Sillouette and Harlequin romance paperbacks in packets of ten and sell them for $1. She says they "go like hotcakes." No wonder Wednesday's speaker is so successful!
Until Monday, Willma
