Book Sales
I had a nice surprise a couple of days ago. Quill Driver Books, publisher of my latest book (2008), Long Distance Grandparenting, notified me that 880 copies have been sold so far. That isn't a lot compared with the books sold by the romance writer (hot sex, she told us) I heard speak last week, but for a nonfiction, purveyor of information, that is good.
The best part for me is that this means they have sold enough copies to recover the $500 advance they sent me. ($250 when they accepted the proposal; $250 when the final manuscript was o.k'd). In addition, they sent me my first royalty check: $190. (They pay roaylties at 6% per book sale, and even pay that percentage on the books I purchase.) This is not fabulous money, but it is certainly better than bearing the costs of self-publishing.
Quill Driver publishes only nonfiction. LDGP is the second of my titles with them. The other is Just Pencil Me In–Your Guide To Moving & Getting Settled After 60.
Have a good week, and happy writing!. Willma
