Kiddieshop

This morning was the first full session for our children's writers' workshop.  We call it "Kiddieshop" for short. Six of us read the stories we are working on now.

It is amazing to me how this kind of sharing  can "hit the nail on the head" as to what is needed.  I've known that my little story "Backpack Betty" (now in approximately its 5th incarnation) needed some help.  Among our members are a former kindergarten teacher and a retired children's librarian.  Mine is a "read-to"  story, not one to be read by a child.  Although I am very rigid about proper point of view when I am hearing or reading adult material, I did not realize until today's reading that I  needed help with point of view in this little story.  What a bonanza.!!  I know now exactly what I will do to "cure" my story.  It still may not find a  publisher, but I know it will be much closer for the help I received this morning.

Moral to this story?  One more endorsement of writer workshops (critique groups) –Until tomorrow, Willma
