Planning & Surviving A Book Tour
There's a certain amount of "glamour" attached to having published books and taking them on tour. However, there has to be better ways to sell your precious words. I've just turned in an article on this subject for possible publication and will certainly let all know out there in my blogsphere where to find it if it gets published.
Don't mistake me. I had a wonderful time, seeing old friends, making new ones at the eight presentations I delivered.. These were at three writer club meetings, one church, three retirement homes (the book I was promoting: LONG DISTANCE GRANDPARENTING.) and a book store–these in five different California cities.. I also attended three writer workshops (among old friends) where I sold several books. The audiences for my presentations ranged from five to 25 people.
Besides the featured book, I carried copies of two other previously published books–a novel (SOMETHING'S LEAKING UPSTAIRS and my first-published adult nonfiction book, JUST PENCIL ME IN–YOUR GUIDE TO MOVING AND GETTING SETTLED. (Before moving to Sedona, AZ in 2004, I lived in six different counties in California and participated in writer workshops wherever I have lived.)
I am in the process now of discovering more and better ways to market writing on-line. I sold 50 books and brought home orders for five additional ones. However, had I not been treated to gratis B&B, I would have been in a financial hole.
More on this when I have more and better wisdom to spread.
