How To Wait For Glory
A phone call today reveals some writing history that renews my faith in publishers. About three years ago, I read of an anthology to be published in Los Angeles under the title, I Didn't Get Old Being Stupid. I submitted a humorous essay from my files, "Love, Honor, & Read the List." Within a couple of months I received information that they liked the essay but publication date was not certain. I would be paid $100 when they were ready to publish.
I heard nothing until one day a year later when I had moved to a new address, I had a call saying that the anthology was still on track to be published and I would still be paid the $100 for my essay.
Today, approximately THREE YEARS following acceptance, a call came from the publisher saying they need my current address so they can mail the check. Publication is aiming for the 2009 pre-Xmas season. Promotional blogs and internet promo are promised–as well as the check. Plus a copy of the book, of course. Let this be inspiration to all writers who despair of seeing their names in print–and to being paid for the glory.
This is the 4th anthology in which I am promised (?) appearance this year. My bookshelf runneth over! –Willma
