Good News

9/28/09  Friday was a "red letter day."  About 5 p.m. the doorbell rang.  It was a UPS delivery and the box was heavy. Opening it I found the ten copies of the latest anthology from Chicken Soup For the Soul titled What I Learned From The Cat..  My humorous article "Feline Fortitude is the third entry in this book that contains, (according to the cover) "101 stories about Life, Love, and Lessons."  Of course, I was especially delighted because this means I can add copies of this book to the three that I planned to display  (and sell, I hope) at the Oct. 3, First Annual Sedona Book Festival.

I was reminded then that I had not picked up my mail from the box in the driveway.  Another pleasant surprise awaited me: My short story, "Just Desserts" won third place on the annual Professional Writers of Prescott contest.  I enter contests frequently and have won more money for my fiction in contests than I have in placing stories with magazines.

Until tomorrow, Willma

Pash @ 11:35 am:

Double congrats, Willma!

And SO interesting that you've won more money writing for contests than for other sources!

Willma Gore @ 11:51 am:

Pash–and any others who may be interested: Don't misunderstand me. Most of the money earned from writing has been for travel articles and other nonfiction. I have not written a lot of short stories. I'm working on my fourth novel, however. Thanks for tuning in. Willma
