Who's Who?

10/14/09  Some time in 2006 I had a notice from the Who's Who in the U.S. saying that I had been "suggested" (?) for inclusion in their next volume.  Why and who suggested me, I have never known, or maybe they just needed to add another name in the accumulation of last names beginning with "G."

Every year since, I get word that they want to up-date the information on me and will I "please enter any changes on the enclosed form."  ALSO, annually, I receive their offer of a leather-bound, gold-embossed copy of their latest edition (around $150).  The regular edition is around $100. Or I can choose a wall placque "genuine mahogany and brass" with my name on it.  I can purchase bookends personally inscribed.  I can't recall all the offers but all cost BIG bucks. Imagine the money they make if only half the thousands of people honored in their books purchase a volume just to see their name in Who's Who. To do what with?  Show off to the relatives or any visitors.  " I'm glad you dropped in. By the way, I want to show you where I am listed in Who's Who of America."

I wonder how long it will take them to realize I'm not buying the book–or the plaque or the bookends or the paper weights–even if they issue the volume in paper back. Maybe if I send them a notice "deceased" they will cease and desist.?–Willma
