"Working Writer"

10/29/09– Yesterday's snail mail brought my copy of the bi-monthly publication, Working Writer. I have contributed a number of articles to it since I first learned about it about two years ago.  I subscribe to the print copy because I spend so much time at the computer I like to have some reading material that I can ingest sitting in a soft chair with my feet up. Editor, Maggie Frisch, included a note thanking me for my "excellent" article.  It is titled, "You Can Write–But Can You Speak Effectively About Ir?"  It is derived partly from the fact that I nearly flunked my public speaking class in college.  It wasn't until I had sold a number of articles and profiles that I realized I did have some experience to speak about that might be of help to others.  There are writers who "speak  but don't reach effectvely" and writers who present an engaging and helpful  talk.  Though the years I have spoken to writer clubs and at retirement homes in more than 25 California, Arizona & Nevada cities.  I've learned to engage the audience, keep the pace humorous as well as helpful, and use a microphone properly–all essential to effective public speaking.

But this issue carries information of particular import to me at this time. I've mentioned that my current writing project is a memoir. In this issue of WW find an article and a  listing from an agent who is seeking  submission of memoirs.  I will query her immeditely. She is Jennifer Lawler at jennifer@studiob.com and her agency information is at www.salkindagency.com
