Do you have "Grit"?
11/2/09– Finally this morning (after a month with a broken furnace) the installers are here with a new unit for me and tell me I'll have heat "within 3 to 4 hours." The only parts of me that aren't cold are fingers flying over the computer keyboard.
A market has come to my attention via e-mail this morning: A "call for submissions" from Grit. This publication is more than 100 years old. When I was a child I sold copies of the original tabloid-size newspaper door to door for some prize I do not remember now. Many years later when I lived in the agriculture-based San Joaquin Valley of California, I sold a number of articles and photo illustrations to them. They are now a slick magazine "seeking feature-length articles on topics of interest to those living in rural areas, on farms or ranches, or those interested in the rural lifestyle. . ."800-1500 words". . . pays "about 35 cents per word."
This should be worth our "digging into" rural roots or experiences. See http://www.grit/guidelines.aspx
Until tomorrow, Willma
