"–Speaking of Writing…"
11/16/09–Missed last Friday. Sometimes too much piles up by the end of the week.
I'm totally enchanted by a writer friend who has begun e-mailing a weekly newsletter to people in her neighborhood. She calls it "Chapel Chimes," as all in this Sedona neighborhood can look up from their back yards and see the famous Catholic Chapel set high against–and perched on–the classic Sedona red bluffs. She seeks contributions of photos, news bits, birthdays, musical events–in which neighbors are participants or stars. And she invites others to take on editing an issue or two. I'm sure this is a way that cements relationships among neighbors who are physically close but who, in today's busy and largely impersonal neighborhoods do not often mingle.
Once when I lived in another apartment in this Village of Oak Creek complex of about 100 condos stacked in eight compact buildings of approximately 10 units each, I had thought of offering to do a newsletter for our little community. However I knew then–and doubly-so now–that such would require far more time than I want to give to such a project. I have all I can do to manage hosting four writer workshops–to become five in January 2010. What am I thinking? All I can say is that people who write are endlessly interesting and inspiring.–Willma
