Publicity–Many Forms
10/17/09– Recent news releases about my writer workshops that I've sent to our local paper have not been published. Although most of my groups are full, I am launching a new one in January 2010. I'm sure it has been assumed by the editors that I charge a major fee and therefore that my news releases are forms of advertising that I should pay for in a display ad.
One of the Red Rock News reporters has a regular weekly column under the general title "At Random." Theoretically the reporter encounters somebody on the street or in a local parking lot and interviews the person for a story about how and why he/she is in Sedona. Last week I sent an e-mail to that reporter, Lu Stitt, telling her she probably would not find me out and about unless she caught me as pullingl my little wheeled cart across the street for groceries. I told her a little about my workshops and invited her to find me "At Random"
She called this morning and we have set up an appointment for next week. She was surprised that I charge only a small fee when I offer handouts that list contests and markets.
