At the Mic

11/119/09–Yesterday (Wednesday) was the date for two major activities–morning workshop and the 90-minute  trip to Prescott where I read my winning short story (PWP annual contest). The audience was surprisingly large.  I didn't arrive home until almost 10 p.m. and was not inclined to blog at that hour.

Poetry, essays, and fiction were read–either by the winning authors of same or by one of the PWP Board members who read winning pieces.  I was greatly impressed  by the quality of all presented.  As the chairman of the contest said, the quality of submissions that came in from six states in addition to Arizona, was extremely high, making selection difficult.

At these meetings a table is provided a table where member authors can display their books.  I sold four of the three titles I carried with me and purchased two written by other member authors.

A high point for me–given the fact that following the last meeting I attended, I COMPLAINED loud and clear to the Board–that only one of the five panelists invited to speak  that evening knew how to use a microphone.  Last night, the president sat near the front and chided any author-speaker who allowed the Mic to stray from her mouth. (The two men winners in the contest were unable to be present). Proper use of the mic enabled all to hear the presentations.  (My "gripe" paid off.)

Three members of my workshops were there to cheer me on and I met two others who are interested in coming to my new workshop that will begin meeting in January.–Willma
