Our Crazy, Confusing Language
11/20/09–Gems from writer friends are here below to cheer you into a writerly working weekend:
The bandage was wound around the wound.. . . On the farm they produce produce. . . The dump was so full it had to refuse any more refuse. . . We must polish the Polish furniture.. . .He could lead if he would get the lead out.. . .I did not object to the object. . . .To help with planting, the farmer taught his sow to sow. The wind was too strong to wind the sale. . . . The buck does funny things when the does are present. .. There was a row among the oarsmen about how to row.
The meaning is different even though the spelling is the same in these words. The pronunciation is what gives sense to these sentences. - Enough for this week–Willma
