Iron GripIron Grip: A Memoir by Willma Willis Gore Dedicated to the amputee veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan, Iron Grip shows how learning to live without hands is only the beginning! I arrived in Gadsden, Alabama in September 1945 to join my Lieutenant husband, Alex, stationed there with the Army Chemical Warfare Service. Four days later, I happily awaited his return home from an assignment to New Orleans. Instead of our little '37 Chevy, an official Camp Siebert car parked in our driveway.Captain Greeley, hat in hand, came to the door to tell me that Alex  had been "in a little accident at camp and his hands were burned." He suggested I come to the camp hospital and plan to stay overnight at the base. Two agonizing hours after I arrived at the hospital, the surgeon came to tell me both Alex's hands had been severed when he helped his men unload munitions. Our marriage-long adventure through tears and laughter took us from first making my two hands serve as four, his progress with exemplary dexterity to his finishing college, hiking in the High Sierra of California. and coaching our three sons on  hiking  .We hiked the High Sierra together; he achieved an excellent job in industry, and coached three sons in the arts of hiking and fishing–and, if you believe it, hand crafts. He gained total independence, an example to amputees everywhere and taught our three ons the use of hand tools and fabricating machinery. Together we proved that an iron grip on life can be had with either hands or hooks.Release date: February 5, 2011. Hello Wilma,

I see that you have several published books and I wanted to extend this invitation to you and let you know of a brand new website. I know that like most authors, reviews are very important to you. Wouldn't it be valuable to you to receive reviews from your peers? Reviews4reviews.com is a brand new website where you can place your books and have authors and reviewers review your works, and you can review theirs.

Reviews4reviews.com is designed with the notion that authors can swap books with each other in subjects they are interested in and can give helpful, constructive criticism at the same time. It will also allow independent authors the ability to network.

Reviews4reviews.com was set up for just that purpose. It was designed by an author with authors in mind. Who better to review books than another author? Registration for authors is free, and there is a minimal fee of $10.00 per title which enables everyone the ability to see your work and contact you to either trade or buy and then review.

Registration is easy and takes less than 5 minutes.

I look forward to seeing you on the site.

Hi, Wilma:

I'm so happy to hear of your success. Got your info from one of our Writer's Club members who also belongs to California Writers. I think Nicky Gerstner, Hilda Lassalette, and I are the only members left who remember you, but the club is still going strong. You might check out our website: Writers' Cl;ub of Whittier. Is your new book available in bookstores?

Take care,

Marilyn

Willma Gore @ 3:08 pm:

Thank you for contacting me, Marilyn. Yes, it's been a long time–too long. I've lost track of Ruth Radlauer–last Xmas card was "returned to sender." But I do remember the Whittier group fondly. My latest book, Iron Grip, is available at Willma Gore.com (via Amazon.com. It's the story that begins in 1945 when my younr Lieutenant husband lost both hands in an explosion at Camp Seibert, Alabama where he was stationed. Reviews are on amazon. Thanks for writing, and keep in touch. all the best, Willma

Just pencil me in is perfect for me and at the perfect time, but it is dated. Will you do a revised edition.

I live on Social Security only. Most books of this kind leave low income seniors behind. Many of your suggestions are not income specific, but most on practical solutions do.

Still, it is a gem.
